God’s River Lodge 2025 Fall

In September 2025, six of us headed to God’s River Lodge, a place I’d been wanting to share with Wayne’s group for years. It turned out to be one of our best trips yet.”
I find it fascinating how these fishing trips come together. Back in 2018 a group of guys were looking for 3 more fishermen to come with them to Echoing Lake. I had wanted to fish Echoing since 2017, so I signed up my dad and I to go along. That trip happened in 2019, and we have a fantastic time. That lodge is no longer operating and not far from God’s River Lodge (60-80km), After chatting with the organizer (Wayne) for a couple of years he asked me for recommendations on another trip that would offer good pike and walleye fishing like Echoing. I suggested Cree River Lodge. We fished there in 2024. It was a good trip but not what we wanted in terms of size or numbers, so we decided to try one of my favorites in 2025. Gods River Lodge. We decided on a September date to try and catch the Lakers shallow. So, this is the trip we ultimately enjoy this year. Our dates were Sept 16-23.
Overall – Our group of 6 had a fanatic trip with lots of fun and personal bests. We are planning to return with the same group in 2026 with perhaps an even larger group. The 2025 group included my dad who enjoyed his 85 birthday while there.
Travel: Considering the remote location, 320 miles North of Winnipeg, God’s River is easy to get there. First you need to get to Winnipeg. Then normally you spend the night and fly in the next morning on a commercial flight through one of the two commercial operators with daily flights to God’s River. This allows you to arrive around noon, grab a quick lunch in the lodge, and hit the water by 1:00PM.
Fishing: Fall fishing in the far North can be a little bit tricky. The weather can go sideways in a big way. I’ve seen 35mph winds causing 6-foot waves resulting in lost fishing time. Another potential issue is the turnover that can disperse the fish and make numbers hard to find.
Fishing Summary
| Species | Total # Est | Biggest | Effort | Master Anglers |
| Lakers | 200 | 42 inches | 30% | 3 |
| Pike | 1000 | 44 inches | 50% | 6 |
| Brookie | 3 | 17 | 15% | 0 |
| Walleyes | 15 | 24 | 5% | 0 |
Lakers – We didn’t get huge numbers of Lakers shallow, but we caught many fish casting and even when trolling it was simple long line trolling with smaller spoons. As a group we caught more than 10 fish in the 30-inch range and dozens and dozens of smaller lakers anywhere we could see boulders. Very cool to watch fish all colored up for the spawn fighting in 10 feet of water. Top lure larger spoons – Half Waves

Pike – Presented themselves anywhere we found deeper weeds. (6-12ft) The normal day was well over 100 with several days of 150 pike per boat. Very fun for folks who love lots of action. Top lure medium sized spoons from Doctor Spoons

Walleyes – We spent zero hours fishing for them, but they still popped up from time to time with the average at 22-23 inches with our best at 24 inches. One day I’ll focus on them in May as story are out there that you could put numbers of 25 inch plus fish in the boat if you focused on them early in the year.

Brookies – My dad and I were the only ones to fish them, and they were slower than May for sure. We wound up with 3 with maybe 5% of our group time spent targeting them. We did seen hundreds of them in a fast water section of smaller river rocks. They absolutely refused to bite which makes be suspect they were actively spawning or about to.

Accommodations are via standalone 4-bedroom 4 bath guest cottages that offer good WIFI and cable tv in the main shared loving room. We enjoyed the NFL games and rested our old bodies after the long days of fishing.
Food is offered in the main lodge. Although it is basic like Meatloaf, Chicken Parm, Ham and potatoes it is warm, and you don’t have to cook it or clean up. Best of all was a birthday cake for dad!

Wrap up
I love these fall trips. The fishing can be unpredictable, but the colors, the company, and the chance for a trophy make it unbeatable. We’ll be back in 2026, maybe with an even bigger crew
